Agrasen ki Baoli is an ancient stepwell located in the heart of Delhi, presenting a surprising piece of history amid the city's modern buildings. Protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), this structure features a long flight of 108 steps that descend towards what was once a reservoir. As you walk down, you pass through three distinct levels, each lined with arched niches and passageways on both sides. The architecture is impressive, with the stone walls creating a unique play of light and shadow that changes throughout the day.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit is from October to March when the weather in Delhi is pleasant and cool, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C. This makes exploring the open-air stepwell comfortable. The summer months, from April to June, are extremely hot, making the descent down the steps tiring. The monsoon season, from July to September, can make the stone steps slippery and risky.
Peak Crowd: November-January, weekends, and public holidays, especially in the afternoons.
Moderate Crowd: February-March, October, and weekday afternoons.
Low Crowd: April-June due to extreme heat, and July-September during monsoon season. Weekday mornings are also relatively quiet.

Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is the nearest airport, located about 16 km away. It takes approximately 45-60 minutes to reach by taxi or cab.

Train

New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) is the closest major railway station, about 2.5 km away. Old Delhi Railway Station (DLI) is about 5 km away. Both are well-connected to the site by auto-rickshaws, taxis, and the metro.

Road

Agrasen ki Baoli is centrally located near Connaught Place and is easily accessible by road from all parts of Delhi and the NCR. It's situated on Hailey Road, off Kasturba Gandhi Marg.

Local Transport

The most convenient way to reach is by Delhi Metro. Get down at Barakhamba Road or Janpath station. Auto-rickshaws and app-based cabs like Ola and Uber are readily available throughout the city. DTC buses also have extensive connectivity to the Connaught Place area.
