Explore a miniature Goan village from 100 years ago and see India's longest laterite sculpture at this unique open-air museum.
The Big Foot Museum, also known as Ancestral Goa, is an open-air museum in Loutolim that recreates Goan rural life from over a century ago. Spread across a large area, the museum features a miniature village with life-sized statues and models depicting various traditional occupations and daily activities. Visitors can walk through scenes of feni distillation, fishing, farming, and artisans at work, providing a detailed look into the region's past. The layout guides you along a path through these different exhibits, offering a tangible sense of the culture and social structure of old Goa. The highlight of the museum is the enormous laterite sculpture of Sant Mirabai, which is recorded in the Limca Book of Records as the longest in India. The tour, often guided, explains the significance of each display and the customs associated with it. The space also includes an art gallery, a souvenir shop selling local handicrafts, and a small eatery. The experience is educational and offers a different perspective on Goa beyond its beaches and nightlife.
