    About the Destination

    Overview

    Located on the scenic Bolgatty Island in Kochi, Bolgatty Palace is a former Dutch palace that now functions as a heritage hotel managed by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). Built in 1744 by Dutch traders, it is one of the oldest existing Dutch palaces outside of Holland. The main palace building showcases typical Dutch colonial architecture with high ceilings, large halls, and wooden-framed glass windows. The property is spread across a large area with well-maintained lawns, a 9-hole golf course, and panoramic views of the Kochi backwaters and harbor.

    Best Time to Visit

    • The ideal time to visit Bolgatty Palace is from September to March when the weather in Kochi is pleasant and cool, with minimal rainfall. This period is perfect for walking around the gardens and enjoying the outdoor setting. The peak tourist season is from December to February. Summers, from April to May, are hot and humid. The monsoon season, from June to August, experiences heavy rainfall which can limit outdoor exploration.
    • Peak Crowd: December to February, especially on weekends and public holidays, due to peak tourist season.
    • Moderate Crowd: September-November and March, when the weather is still good but the main tourist rush has subsided.
    • Low Crowd: April to August, during the hot summer and heavy monsoon seasons.

    How to Reach

    Air

    Cochin International Airport (COK) is the nearest airport, located about 30 km away. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach by taxi.

    Train

    Ernakulam Junction (South) and Ernakulam Town (North) are the two main railway stations in Kochi, both located within 5-7 km. You can hire a taxi or an auto-rickshaw from either station to reach High Court Jetty for the ferry.

    Road

    Kochi is well-connected by National Highways to major cities in South India. The Goshree bridges provide direct road access to Bolgatty Island from the mainland.

    Local Transport

    The most convenient local transport is the ferry from High Court Jetty. App-based cab services like Uber and Ola, as well as auto-rickshaws, are widely available in Kochi to take you to the jetty or directly to the palace via the bridges.
