Brindavan Gardens - Musical Fountains at KRS Dam, Mysore

The construction of Brindavan Gardens was initiated in the 1920s and completed in 1932. It was commissioned by Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore. The garden was designed by Sir Mirza Ismail, the Diwan of Mysore at the time, to enhance the beauty of the area surrounding the newly constructed Krishnaraja Sagar Dam. The design was inspired by the Shalimar Gardens of Kashmir, reflecting a blend of Mughal and traditional Indian horticultural styles. Its purpose was to create a public recreational space, and it has since become one of Karnataka's most visited tourist spots.

Brindavan Gardens is significant for being one of India's first major illuminated terrace gardens and for its pioneering musical fountain. Its creation transformed the area around the functional KRS dam into a major tourist hub, demonstrating a unique integration of engineering and aesthetics. For decades, it has been an iconic location for filming numerous Indian movies, making it a familiar sight to people across the country. It remains a prime example of public garden design from its era and a symbol of Mysore's royal patronage of public works.
