Cubbon Park - Bangalore's Premier Green Oasis

Established in 1870, the park was created by Sir John Meade, the then acting Commissioner of Mysore. It was originally named 'Meade's Park' and later renamed after Sir Mark Cubbon, who was the longest-serving commissioner of the Mysore state. The park's layout was designed by Major General Richard Hieram Sankey. In 1927, to commemorate the silver jubilee of Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar's rule, it was officially renamed 'Sri Chamarajendra Park'. However, the name 'Cubbon Park' has remained in popular use. It was conceived as a lung space for the growing city and continues to fulfill that purpose today.

Cubbon Park's primary significance lies in its role as a major green lung in the heart of Bangalore, offering a vital ecological balance and a recreational space for citizens. It holds significant botanical value, with a rich collection of native and exotic flora, encompassing over 6,000 trees and plants. Historically, it is important for the colonial-era buildings and statues it contains, reflecting Bangalore's past. Culturally, it acts as a hub for various community events, fitness activities, and informal gatherings, making it an integral part of the city's social fabric.
