Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary is a protected area specifically created for the conservation of the Indian Sloth Bear. The landscape is quite rugged, filled with large boulders, thorny scrub forests, and caves, which is the natural habitat for these animals. The main activity for visitors is to go to a multi-level watchtower situated at a strategic point inside the sanctuary. From here, you can observe the bears in the late afternoon.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to visit is from October to February when the weather is cool and pleasant, making the wait at the watchtower comfortable. The summer months from March to June can be extremely hot, with temperatures often crossing 40°C. However, bear sightings can be more frequent near waterholes during this time. The monsoon season from July to September sees rainfall that can make access roads muddy and difficult to navigate.
Peak Crowd: November to January, especially on weekends and public holidays, aligning with the peak tourist season in Hampi.
Moderate Crowd: October, February, and March on weekdays.
Low Crowd: April to September, due to the extreme heat and subsequent monsoon season.

How to Reach

Air

The nearest airport is Vidyanagar Airport (VDY) in Toranagallu, about 40 km away. Another option is Hubli Airport (HBX), which is around 160 km away.

Train

Hospet Junction (HPT) is the closest railway station, approximately 20 km away. It is well-connected to major cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Goa. You can hire a taxi or auto-rickshaw from the station.

Road

The sanctuary is well-connected by road from Hampi and Hospet. It is located a few kilometers off the main road. You can drive or hire a private vehicle. Regular buses connect Hospet to major cities in Karnataka.

Local Transport

Hiring an auto-rickshaw or a car for a round trip is the most convenient option from Hampi or Hospet. Rates are negotiable, so it's best to fix a price for the entire trip, including waiting time.
