Eco Park is situated on a high plateau in Cherrapunji, offering some of the most dramatic landscape views in Meghalaya. The park's main draw is its unobstructed, panoramic view of the vast green plains of Bangladesh stretching out below the cliffs. It's a simple, well-maintained space designed for visitors to walk around and appreciate the scale of the Khasi hills and the gorges they form. A stream runs through the park, which is actually the water source that feeds the famous Nohsngithiang Falls, also known as the Seven Sisters Falls, located nearby. The park has paved pathways that lead to different viewing points along the edge of the plateau. There is also a small greenhouse inside which houses a variety of native orchids and other plants, giving a glimpse into the local flora. The atmosphere is generally quiet and breezy, making it a good spot to relax and take in the scenery.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to visit is from October to February. During these post-monsoon months, the skies are generally clear, providing sharp views of the distant plains and waterfalls. The weather is cool and pleasant. The monsoon season, from June to September, brings heavy fog and rain which often completely obscure the view, though the landscape is at its greenest. The summer months from March to May are also a good time to visit, though it can get a bit hazy.
Peak Crowd: October to January, particularly on weekends and during the Durga Puja and Christmas holidays, as this is the main tourist season.
Moderate Crowd: February to May, on both weekdays and weekends.
Low Crowd: June to September, during the heavy monsoon season, as poor visibility deters many visitors.

How to Reach

Air

Shillong Airport (SHL) is the nearest airport, about 80 km away (approx. 3 hours drive). However, the larger and better-connected Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati (GAU) is about 180 km away (5-6 hours drive).

Train

Guwahati Railway Station (GHY) is the nearest major railway station, located around 160 km from Cherrapunji. You can hire a taxi or take a bus from Guwahati to Shillong, and then proceed to Cherrapunji.

Road

Cherrapunji is well-connected to Shillong (55 km, approx. 2 hours) by a scenic road. Taxis, both private and shared, are readily available from Shillong. The park is located on the main road that connects the major tourist spots in Cherrapunji.

The most convenient way to get around Cherrapunji is by hiring a local taxi for a full-day or half-day sightseeing tour. These taxis cover all the major points of interest, including Eco Park.
