    Overview

    Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, widely known as Film City, is a sprawling integrated studio complex located in Goregaon, Mumbai. Spread over 520 acres, it serves as the primary production hub for India's Hindi film industry, Bollywood, as well as numerous television shows and advertisements. For visitors, the main experience is a guided bus tour that takes you through this world of make-believe. You get to see various permanent sets that can be transformed to depict anything from a rural village, a grand temple, or a colonial-era mansion to a high-security prison or a city courthouse.

    • The period from October to March is ideal for a visit, as Mumbai's weather is pleasant and comfortable for outdoor tours. The winter months from December to February are particularly enjoyable. Avoid the summer months of April and May, which are extremely hot and humid. The monsoon season, from June to September, sees heavy rainfall which can disrupt tours and make moving around uncomfortable.
    • Peak Crowd: December-January, weekends, and school vacation periods (May, October) due to holidays and pleasant weather.
    • Moderate Crowd: February-April, November, and weekday afternoons.
    • Low Crowd: June-September during the heavy monsoon season when outdoor activities are limited.

    How to Reach

    Air

    Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) is about 12 km away. The drive can take 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

    Train

    Goregaon Station on the Mumbai Suburban Railway's Western Line is the nearest local station (5 km). For long-distance trains, major terminals like Mumbai Central, Dadar, or Bandra Terminus are well-connected to Goregaon via the local train network.

    Road

    Film City is located off the Western Express Highway, making it easily accessible by car or taxi from any part of Mumbai. Mumbai is well-connected to other cities like Pune and Nashik by a network of national highways.

    Local Transport

    Auto-rickshaws and taxis are readily available from Goregaon station. BEST buses provide good connectivity to the area. Ride-hailing apps like Ola and Uber are a popular and convenient option.
