Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari - A Tour of Film City Mumbai

Established in 1977 by the Government of Maharashtra, Film City was conceived to provide comprehensive facilities and infrastructure to the booming Indian film industry. The project was developed under the guidance of veteran filmmaker V. Shantaram. Its primary purpose was to create a single, massive location with diverse settings to save producers the time and expense of traveling to different places for shoots. Over the decades, it has expanded significantly, adding state-of-the-art studios and technology. It was renamed Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari in 2001 to honor Dadasaheb Phalke, the 'father of Indian cinema'. Today, it remains one of the busiest and most important film production centers in the world.

Film City is the operational heart of Bollywood, India's largest and most influential film industry. Its significance lies in being the physical space where a vast majority of Hindi films and television shows are brought to life. It provides employment to thousands of technicians, artists, and crew members. For movie lovers and tourists, it represents a tangible connection to the magic of cinema, offering a rare opportunity to see the production process up close. Culturally, it is a landmark that symbolizes the global reach and creative power of Indian storytelling, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in the world of entertainment.
