Green Valley is a well-known viewpoint located on National Highway 5, on the way from Shimla to Kufri. It's not a formal park but a scenic stretch of road offering an expansive view of a deep gorge covered with thick forests of pine and deodar trees. The valley is a popular stop for tourists to take photographs and appreciate the natural landscape of the region. The view is quite dramatic, with rolling green hills stretching as far as the eye can see. The area around the viewpoint is undeveloped, with the main attraction being the raw, natural scenery itself.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Green Valley is from March to June when the weather is pleasant and the valley is lush green. Another great period is from September to November, after the monsoon, when the air is crisp and the views are exceptionally clear. Avoid the monsoon months of July and August due to fog, which obstructs the view, and the increased risk of landslides. The winter months from December to February offer a different view, often with snow on the distant peaks, but it can be very cold.
Peak Crowd: May-June (summer holidays), December-January (winter holidays and snowfall season), and on weekends.
Moderate Crowd: March-April, September-November on weekdays.
Low Crowd: July-August (monsoon season) due to poor weather and visibility.

How to Reach

Air

The nearest airport is Shimla Airport (SLV) in Jubbarhatti, about 28 km away. However, it has limited connectivity. The nearest major airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), which is about 120 km away (4-5 hours by road).

Train

The nearest broad-gauge railway station is in Kalka (KLK), about 90 km away. From Kalka, you can take the famous Kalka-Shimla toy train (a 5-6 hour journey) or a taxi to reach Shimla. The Shimla railway station is about 8 km from Green Valley.

Road

Green Valley is located directly on National Highway 5. Shimla is well-connected by road to major cities like Delhi (350 km) and Chandigarh (115 km). You can drive or take regular HRTC or private buses. From Shimla, it's an 8 km drive towards Kufri.

Local Transport

Local taxis, cabs (Ola/Uber are limited), and local buses are easily available from Shimla to reach Green Valley. It is a standard stop on the Shimla-Kufri taxi tour packages.
