Overview

The Gulmarg Golf Course is a vast, 18-hole course situated in a large meadow in the center of Gulmarg. At an altitude of about 8,700 feet, it is recognized as one of the highest green golf courses in the world. The course's layout naturally follows the rolling slopes and dips of the valley, which means players face unique challenges due to the undulating terrain. The fairways are lined with tall pine, chinar, and fir trees, and the entire area offers unobstructed views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks of the Pir Panjal range.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit is from May to September. During these months, the snow has melted completely, revealing the lush green landscape of the course. The weather is pleasant, with daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This is also the only period when the course is open for golfing. The course is entirely covered in snow and closed from November to April, when it becomes part of the ski slopes.
Peak Crowd: May-July, weekends and public holidays, due to summer vacation tourist rush.
Moderate Crowd: August-September, when the main summer holiday season ends.
Low Crowd: The course is closed from November to April due to snow.

How to Reach

Air

The nearest airport is Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (SXR) in Srinagar, which is about 56 km away. From the airport, it takes approximately 2 hours to reach Gulmarg by taxi.

Train

The nearest major railway station is Jammu Tawi (JAT), located about 290 km away. From Jammu, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Srinagar, and then proceed to Gulmarg. This is a long journey of about 8-10 hours.

Road

Gulmarg is well-connected by road from Srinagar. The journey of 56 km takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Taxis, both private and shared, are readily available from Srinagar. Regular bus services also operate between Srinagar and Tangmarg, from where you can get a connecting taxi to Gulmarg.

Local Transport

The Golf Course is located in the center of Gulmarg town. You can easily walk to it from most hotels. For other movements within Gulmarg, you can hire ponies, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), or local taxis.
