    About the Destination

    Overview

Harvalem Waterfalls, also known as Arvalem Waterfalls, is a scenic cascade located in a quiet, green area of North Goa. The water drops from a height of about 50 meters, forming a small lake at the bottom that is popular for swimming. The area around the falls is surrounded by lush vegetation, making it a refreshing stop, especially after the monsoon rains when the flow is strongest. The waterfall is not a year-round attraction; its volume decreases significantly during the dry season and it may completely dry up in peak summer. Visitors will find a well-maintained viewing area and a recently constructed park nearby, offering good vantage points for photos. A significant feature of this location is its proximity to other points of interest. Right next to the waterfall is the Rudreshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. A staircase leads from the temple down to the base of the falls. Additionally, the ancient Arvalem rock-cut caves, believed to date back to the 6th century, are just a short walk away, allowing visitors to combine nature with history and spirituality in a single visit.

    • • Combine your visit with the Arvalem Caves and Rudreshwar Temple, which are right next to the falls.
    • • There are limited food options nearby, so carrying your own snacks and water is advisable.
    • • Be cautious while swimming; check the depth and be aware of submerged rocks.
    • • Mobile network coverage can be patchy in this area.

    Best Time to Visit

    • The ideal time to visit Harvalem Waterfalls is during the monsoon and post-monsoon months, from July to November. During this period, the rains feed the waterfall, creating a powerful and impressive cascade. The surrounding landscape is also at its greenest. From December onwards, the water flow starts to reduce, and by late summer (March to May), it often slows to a trickle or dries up completely. Visiting in peak monsoon (July-August) offers the most dramatic views.
    • Peak Crowd: August-October, especially on weekends and public holidays when the waterfall is at its best.
    • Moderate Crowd: July, November, and weekday afternoons during the peak season.
    • Low Crowd: December-June, when the water flow is minimal and tourist interest wanes.
