An ancient and highly revered Ganesha temple in coastal Karnataka, famous for its unique standing idol and for serving free meals to all devotees.
The Idagunji Maha Ganapathi Temple is a significant pilgrimage center dedicated to Lord Ganesha, located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. The temple's main attraction is the unique, two-armed standing idol of Ganesha, which is believed to be very ancient. Unlike many temples, the atmosphere here is focused purely on devotion, without excessive commercialism. Visitors enter a simple but well-maintained complex. The central sanctum, or garbhagriha, houses the black stone idol, which is about two feet tall. Devotees often wait in disciplined queues for a brief darshan, or viewing of the deity.
