To reach the falls, visitors undertake a short trek of about 500 meters through a dense forest trail, which involves climbing a series of steps and crossing a small bridge. The area around the falls is lush and green, especially after the monsoons. Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to visit Irupu Falls is from September to January. During this post-monsoon period, the waterfall is at its most powerful, and the surrounding Brahmagiri hills are covered in dense greenery. The weather is pleasant and cool. The monsoon season, from June to August, offers a spectacular sight of the roaring falls, but the trail becomes very slippery and leech-infested, making the trek challenging. Summer months, from March to May, see a significant reduction in water flow, which might be disappointing for visitors.
Peak Crowd: October-December, long weekends, and public holidays due to pleasant weather and peak tourist season.
Moderate Crowd: January-March and on weekends during the monsoon season (July-September).
Low Crowd: Weekdays, especially during the summer months (April-June) when the water flow is minimal.

Kannur International Airport (CNN) in Kerala is the nearest airport, about 90 km away (2.5-3 hours drive). Mysore Airport (MYQ) is around 110 km away.

Train

The nearest major railway stations are in Mysore (110 km) and Thalassery (100 km) in Kerala. From these stations, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Coorg.

Road

Irupu Falls is well-connected by road. It is located about 50 km from Virajpet and 80 km from Madikeri. Regular KSRTC and private buses connect Coorg with major cities like Bengaluru, Mysore, and Mangalore. From the main towns in Coorg, you'll need to hire a cab or take a local bus to Srimangala.

Local Transport

The best way to reach the falls is by hiring a private taxi or jeep, especially from Madikeri or Virajpet. Local auto-rickshaws are available from the nearby villages of Srimangala and Kutta for the final stretch of the journey.
