    About the Destination

    Overview

Located within the green expanse of Ram Niwas Garden, Jaipur Zoo is one of the oldest zoological parks in India. The space is divided into two distinct sections: one for mammals and the other for birds and reptiles. As you walk through the pathways, you will see a variety of animal enclosures. The mammal section is home to species like tigers, leopards, hyenas, and several types of deer including Sambar and Chital. The separate bird and reptile section, which is a short walk away, features a collection of native and migratory birds. A significant part of this section is the Ghariyal breeding farm, which plays a role in the conservation of this critically endangered crocodile species. The environment is straightforward, with simple enclosures and plenty of trees providing shade. It's a place where families, especially those with children, can spend a couple of hours observing animals in a central city location.

    Visitor Tips

    • • Visit in the morning between 9 AM and 11 AM when animals are most active and the weather is cooler.
    • • Combine your visit with the Albert Hall Museum, which is located right next door in the same garden complex.
    • • Carry a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen, especially from March to October, as much of the zoo is outdoors.
    • • Wear comfortable walking shoes; you will need to walk between the mammal section and the separate bird and reptile area.
    • • Avoid visiting on weekends and public holidays if you prefer fewer crowds. Weekday mornings are the quietest.
    • • The reptile section, especially the Ghariyal enclosure, is a key highlight, so don't miss it.
    • • Check for updated timings before you go, as they can sometimes change seasonally.
    • • Keep your entry ticket safe as it may be required for entry into the different sections of the zoo.

    Rules & Restrictions

    • • Do not feed the animals
    • • Do not tease or make loud noises near the animal enclosures
    • • Plastic bags and outside food may be restricted
    • • No smoking or consumption of alcohol
    • • Maintain a safe distance from the enclosures

    Safety Information

    • • Stay hydrated, especially during warmer months, by carrying and drinking plenty of water.
    • • Do not cross the barriers or try to get too close to the animal enclosures for your safety.
    • • Keep an eye on your personal belongings like wallets and mobile phones, especially in crowded spots.
    • • Supervise children closely at all times as the area is large and can get crowded.
    • • Follow all instructions and signboards posted by the zoo authorities.
    • • In case of any emergency, contact the zoo staff or security personnel who are usually present near the main gates and throughout the park.

    Best Time to Visit

    • The best time to visit Jaipur Zoo is from October to March. During these months, the weather is pleasant with daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it comfortable to walk around the zoo. The animals are also more likely to be active in the cooler weather. Avoid the summer months of April to June, when temperatures can exceed 40°C, making the experience tiring. The monsoon season (July to September) can be a bit humid, but the surroundings are green and fresh.
    • Peak Crowd: November to January, especially on weekends and school holidays, due to pleasant weather and peak tourist season.
    • Moderate Crowd: February, March, and October when the weather is still good but the main tourist rush has subsided.
    • Low Crowd: April to September, covering the hot summer months and the monsoon season, which sees significantly fewer visitors.

    How to Reach

    Air

Jaipur International Airport (JAI) is about 11 km away from the zoo, which is a 25-30 minute drive by taxi or cab.

    Train

Jaipur Junction Railway Station is the nearest major station, located about 5 km away. You can easily get an auto-rickshaw or taxi from the station, taking about 15-20 minutes.

    Road

The zoo is located in a central part of Jaipur and is well-connected by road. It is about 4 km from the Sindhi Camp Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). The city is connected to major cities like Delhi (280 km) and Agra (240 km) via national highways.

    Local Transport

Auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and cycle rickshaws are widely available. App-based cab services like Ola and Uber are a convenient option. Local city buses also have good frequency to the Ram Niwas Garden area.
