A clifftop public garden in Vasco da Gama offering panoramic sea views, historic fort ruins, and access to a secluded beach.
Discover what makes this destination truly special

The Japanese Garden in Goa is a public park located on a clifftop in Mormugao, offering expansive views of the Arabian Sea and the Zuari River estuary. Unlike traditional Japanese gardens, this space is more of a scenic viewpoint combined with garden elements. Visitors will find well-maintained lawns, stone-paved pathways, and benches strategically placed to take in the impressive coastal scenery. The layout is simple, making it easy to walk around and explore. A key feature of the garden is that it's built on the historic site of the Fortaleza Santa Catarina ruins. Remnants of the old Portuguese fort's walls are still visible and integrated into the landscape, adding a layer of history to the visit. From the garden, a flight of steps leads down a rocky cliff face to the secluded Grandmother's Hole Beach, a small cove perfect for a quiet moment away from the main garden area. The atmosphere is generally calm, attracting local families and couples, especially during sunset.
