Kolukkumalai Tea Estate is recognized as the highest organic tea plantation in the world, sitting at an elevation of nearly 8,000 feet above sea level. Reaching the estate is an adventure in itself, involving a challenging 1.5-hour journey in a 4x4 jeep over a very rough, rock-strewn path from the village of Suryanelli. The main draw for most visitors is the spectacular sunrise. From the viewpoint, you can watch the sun emerge over a sea of clouds, illuminating the plains of neighboring Tamil Nadu and the peaks of the Western Ghats. The air here is crisp, clean, and often very cold in the mornings.

Jeep safaris for sunrise viewing start from Suryanelli as early as 4:00 AM. The tea factory tour is available from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The factory and estate are closed for visitors on Sundays.

The entry fee to the estate is approximately ₹125 per person. This fee is separate from the mandatory 4x4 jeep safari cost, which ranges from ₹2,500 to ₹3,500 per jeep. A jeep can typically accommodate 6-7 people. The factory tour and a cup of tea are usually included in the entry fee.
