Saheliyon Ki Bari - The Royal Garden of Maidens in Udaipur

Saheliyon Ki Bari was constructed between 1710 and 1734 by Maharana Sangram Singh II of the Mewar dynasty. He designed and gifted this garden to his queen and her 48 maids-in-waiting. Legend says the garden was designed to recreate the monsoon for the queen. It was intended to be a private and beautiful space where the royal women could relax and enjoy their time. Later in the 19th century, Maharana Bhupal Singh made further additions, including the installation of more fountains and pavilions, enhancing its beauty. Today, it stands as a popular public park managed by the government, preserving its historical charm.

The garden is significant for its remarkable engineering, particularly its fountains that operate solely on the principle of water pressure from the connected Fateh Sagar Lake. This hydro-technical marvel from the 18th century is a key highlight. Culturally, it offers a window into the opulent lifestyle of the Mewar dynasty's royal women, for whom this exclusive space was created. As one of Udaipur's most visited tourist spots, it is valued for its well-preserved heritage, architectural aesthetics, and the peaceful environment it provides amidst the city.
