Lighthouse Beach is the most recognized and frequented of Kovalam's three crescent-shaped beaches. Its name comes from the prominent 35-meter tall Vizhinjam Lighthouse, painted in red and white stripes, situated on a rocky headland at its southern end. Visitors can climb the spiral staircase inside the lighthouse for a stunning panoramic view of the coastline, the Arabian Sea, and the surrounding greenery. The beach itself has soft sands, with some areas having a distinctive blackish tint, and is bordered by a paved walkway lined with a continuous stretch of open-air restaurants, cafes, hotels, and souvenir shops. The beach is accessible 24/7. However, lifeguard services are generally available from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Vizhinjam Lighthouse has specific hours: 10:00 AM to 12:45 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:45 PM. The lighthouse is closed on Mondays.

Entry to the beach is free for all visitors. A separate fee is applicable for entering the Vizhinjam Lighthouse: Indian Adults ₹20, Children ₹10. Foreign Nationals ₹50. Additional charges for cameras (Still Camera ₹25, Video Camera ₹40). These rates are subject to change.
