    About the Destination

    Overview

Mobor Beach is a long spit of sand in South Goa, distinguished by its unique location where the River Sal flows into the Arabian Sea. The beach has soft, white sand and is generally cleaner and less crowded than many of its northern counterparts. On one side, you have the gentle waves of the sea, and on the other, the calm backwaters of the river, creating two distinct environments in one place. The landscape is dotted with casuarina trees and protected sand dunes, adding to its natural feel. Visitors will find a relaxed atmosphere here. The beach is flanked by several luxury resorts, so the facilities and upkeep are of a high standard. While it's quiet, it isn't deserted; a number of beach shacks operate during the tourist season, serving food and drinks right on the sand. The primary activities include sunbathing, swimming in the designated safe zones, and taking long walks along the shore. The river side is the starting point for various boat trips, including dolphin spotting and backwater cruises, offering a different experience from the main beach.

    Visitor Tips

    • • Visit late in the afternoon to enjoy a spectacular sunset over the sea.
    • • Weekdays are significantly less crowded than weekends, offering a more private experience.
    • • Carry sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses, as natural shade is sparse on the main beach area.
    • • For water sports, it's often possible to negotiate prices, especially if you are in a group.
    • • Explore the jetty on the River Sal side for boat trips; it's a different vibe from the sea-facing beach.
    • • The sand is soft and deep in places, so wear flip-flops or be prepared to walk barefoot.
    • • Many beach shacks close during the monsoon (June to September), so check availability if visiting off-season.
    • • Keep a lookout for lifeguards and swim only between the red and yellow flags for safety.

    Rules & Restrictions

    • • No driving vehicles on the beach.
    • • Littering is prohibited; use designated bins.
    • • Do not disturb the sand dunes as they are a protected natural feature.
    • • Open fires or bonfires are generally not allowed.
    • • Commercial activity without a license is forbidden.

    Safety Information

    • • Pay close attention to the instructions and flags put up by lifeguards. Do not swim in areas marked as unsafe.
    • • The currents can be strong, so avoid venturing too deep into the sea, especially if you are not a strong swimmer.
    • • Do not leave your valuables unattended on the beach while swimming.
    • • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially during the hot afternoon hours.
    • • Before engaging in any water sports, confirm the price and safety equipment with the operator.
    • • Avoid walking on isolated stretches of the beach after sunset.
    • • If you consume alcohol at the shacks, do not go for a swim immediately after.

The monsoon season, from June to September, sees heavy rainfall, and while the landscape is green and beautiful, the sea is rough and most beachside establishments are closed.
    • Peak Crowd: December to January, especially during Christmas and New Year's weeks, and on long public holiday weekends.
    • Moderate Crowd: October, November, February, and March, particularly on weekends.
    • Low Crowd: April to June due to the heat, and July to September during the monsoon season.
