    About the Destination

    Overview

Morjim Beach, located in North Goa, is a wide expanse of sand known for its calm and quiet atmosphere, especially when compared to the more crowded beaches nearby. The beach is situated on the northern bank of the Chapora River estuary, where the river flows into the Arabian Sea, offering unique views of the water and the opposite shoreline. The sand is soft and clean, making it good for long walks. The water is generally calm and shallow, suitable for swimming. What makes Morjim distinct is its status as a protected nesting ground for Olive Ridley sea turtles. During the nesting season, certain sections of the beach are fenced off by the forest department to protect the eggs, and visitors are expected to respect these boundaries. This ecological importance means there are fewer permanent structures and less commercial activity directly on the sand. You will find several beach shacks set back from the high tide line, offering food, drinks, and sunbeds. The area is also popular with Russian visitors, which is reflected in the Cyrillic signboards and menu offerings at many local establishments.
