Nehru Science Centre - Mumbai's Interactive Science Museum

The Nehru Science Centre began its journey in 1977 with the 'Light & Sight' exhibition. It was conceived as a space to foster a scientific mindset among the public, particularly students. The first phase of the centre, the Science Park, was opened to the public in 1979. The full-fledged science centre was formally inaugurated on November 11, 1985, by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi. It is the western zone headquarters of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture. Over the years, it has continuously added new galleries and exhibits to remain relevant and engaging for new generations of visitors.

The Nehru Science Centre holds immense significance as a hub for informal science education in Western India. It plays a crucial role in making science accessible and understandable for the general public, moving beyond textbooks to hands-on experiences. Its popularity with school children makes it a vital educational resource, inspiring thousands of young minds to take an interest in scientific fields.
