A peaceful Tibetan monastery near Manali's Mall Road, known for its large Buddha statue, colorful murals, and serene atmosphere.
Discover what makes this destination truly special

Located a short walk from the main market area, the Himalayan Nyingmapa Gompa is a center of peace and Tibetan culture in Manali. Built by Tibetan refugees in the 1950s, this monastery provides a quiet escape from the town's activity. Its distinct pagoda-style architecture, with a bright yellow roof and red accents, stands out. As you approach, you'll see a row of prayer wheels which devotees spin while walking past. Inside the main prayer hall, the atmosphere is calm and filled with the subtle scent of incense and butter lamps. The centerpiece is a large, gilded statue of Lord Buddha (Sakyamuni) in a meditative pose. The walls are covered with detailed thangka paintings and murals that show events from Buddhist teachings. Visitors can sit on the carpets provided and observe the peaceful surroundings or watch monks perform their daily rituals. The monastery also serves as a cultural hub for the local Tibetan community, preserving their heritage and spiritual practices.
