    Overview

The Old Secretariat in Srinagar is a prominent administrative building that reflects the region's rich political and architectural history. Constructed during the Dogra dynasty, this imposing red-brick structure stands as a fine example of colonial and local architectural styles blended together. Located in the heart of the city near the Jhelum River, the building is characterized by its gabled roofs, large arched windows, and a distinctive clock tower, making it a significant city landmark. Visitors will experience the atmosphere of a functioning government hub, as the building continues to house important administrative offices for the Jammu and Kashmir government. While access inside the main offices is restricted to those on official business, the exterior of the building offers a great opportunity for photography and for appreciating the historical architecture. The surrounding area, with its manicured lawns and proximity to The Bund, provides a pleasant setting for a brief stop while exploring the city.

    • Peak Crowd: May-July and September-October, coinciding with the peak tourist season in Kashmir.
