    Overview

Pandikuzhi is a viewpoint located a few kilometers from Thekkady, offering a stunning panoramic view of the rolling hills and deep valleys that mark the border between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. From this vantage point, you can see the plains of Tamil Nadu stretching out in the distance, dotted with small towns and farms. The area is characterized by its rich greenery, small streams, and a series of waterfalls that become active during and after the monsoon season. The atmosphere here is calm and less crowded compared to the main tourist spots in Thekkady, making it a good place for those looking to experience the region's natural landscape in a quieter setting. Visitors typically spend time taking in the view, walking along the ridges, and photographing the landscape. The terrain is natural and largely undeveloped, providing a raw and authentic feel of the Western Ghats.

    Visitor Tips

    • • Visit between September and February to see the waterfalls and lush greenery post-monsoon.

    • • Carry your own water and snacks as there are very few shops in the immediate vicinity.
    • • Avoid visiting during heavy monsoon rains (June-August) as paths become treacherous and views are often obscured by mist.
    • • Combine your visit with a trip to the nearby Chellarkovil viewpoint for a different perspective.
    • • Be careful near the edges of the viewpoint as there are no safety railings in most areas.
    • • Hire a local auto-rickshaw or jeep from Kumily for a convenient round trip.

    Best Time to Visit

    • The best time to visit Pandikuzhi is from September to March. During these post-monsoon and winter months, the landscape is at its greenest, the waterfalls are active, and the weather is pleasant and cool. This period offers clear, haze-free views of the distant plains. The summer months from April to May can be hot and humid, while the peak monsoon season from June to August brings heavy rainfall, which can make the area inaccessible and obscure the views with fog and clouds.
    • Peak Crowd: December-January and long weekends, when tourist traffic in Thekkady is at its highest.
    • Moderate Crowd: October-November, February-March, during weekdays.
    • Low Crowd: April-September, during the peak summer and monsoon seasons.
