    About the Destination

    Overview

Princess Street, located in the heart of Fort Kochi, is one of the oldest streets in the area and provides a clear look into the city's colonial past. Lined with buildings showing distinct Portuguese, Dutch, and British architectural styles, the street is a favorite for leisurely walks. The facades are painted in bright yellows, blues, and pinks, often with bougainvillea spilling over the walls, creating a very scenic environment. Visitors will find a mix of independent boutiques, handicraft shops, antique stores, and art galleries. Interspersed between the shops are numerous cafes and small eateries, many with European-style courtyards, offering a quiet place to relax. The atmosphere is generally relaxed, especially compared to the busier parts of Kochi. It's a place where you can spend a couple of hours just wandering, browsing, and soaking in the unique character of Fort Kochi without a fixed agenda.

    Best Time to Visit

    • The best time to visit is from October to March. During these months, the weather in Kochi is pleasant with lower humidity and comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for walking around. This period also coincides with the peak tourist season and events like the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (held biennially). The monsoon season, from June to September, can be interesting with lush greenery, but heavy rains might disrupt plans. Summer (April-May) is typically hot and humid.
    • Peak Crowd: December-January, weekends, and during the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. Pleasant weather and holidays attract the maximum number of visitors.
    • Moderate Crowd: October-November and February-March. The weather is still good, but tourist footfall is slightly lower than the absolute peak season.
    • Low Crowd: April-September. These months correspond to the hot summer and heavy monsoon, resulting in fewer visitors.
