    About the Destination

    Overview

The Qutb Shahi Tombs are a collection of mausoleums and mosques where the rulers of the Qutb Shahi dynasty were laid to rest. Located about a kilometer north of the Golconda Fort, the complex is a grand royal cemetery. As you walk through the gardens, you'll see seven of the eight Qutb Shahi sultans' tombs, alongside those of their family members and court officials. Each tomb is distinct, yet they all share a common architectural style that blends Persian, Pashtun, and local Indian influences. The structures stand on raised square platforms, topped with large, rounded domes and surrounded by pointed arches and ornate minarets. The intricate stonework, lime stucco decorations, and remnants of blue and green tile work show the detailed craftsmanship of the era. The site also includes a mortuary bath (hamam), where the bodies of the royals were prepared for burial, and other smaller structures. Recent restoration work has revived much of the site's original appearance, making it a well-maintained place to explore.
