Learn about the story and cultural importance of this destination

History

Ram Niwas Bagh was established in 1868 by Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II. It was conceptualized as part of a famine relief project for the citizens of Jaipur. Designed in the Victorian garden style, it was intended to be a beautiful public space for recreation and leisure. The foundation for the Albert Hall Museum, which lies at its center, was laid in 1876. Over the years, the garden has evolved into a multi-faceted cultural hub while retaining its original purpose as a vital green lung for the city of Jaipur.

Significance

Ram Niwas Bagh holds significant recreational and cultural value for Jaipur. As one of the city's oldest and largest public gardens, it provides essential green space for residents. Its primary significance comes from housing the Albert Hall Museum, Rajasthan's oldest museum, which is a major landmark for its Indo-Saracenic architecture and extensive collection. The garden complex acts as a center for art and culture, hosting events and performances, making it an important part of Jaipur's social fabric.
