The ideal time to stay is from September to March when the weather is dry and pleasant, with comfortable temperatures for sightseeing and backwater cruises. This is also the peak tourist season. For those specifically seeking Ayurvedic treatments, the monsoon season from June to August is traditionally considered the best time, as the cool, moist atmosphere is believed to enhance the therapies. The summer months of April and May can be quite hot and humid.

Kollam is connected by National Highway 66 (NH 66). It's a 70 km (1.5-2 hours) drive from Thiruvananthapuram and 140 km (3-4 hours) from Kochi. Government and private buses run frequently to Kollam from major cities in Kerala and neighboring states.
