The activity here is predominantly bouldering, which involves climbing smaller rock formations without ropes, relying on crash pads for safety. The granite offers excellent friction and features a variety of holds, including slopers, crimps, and cracks, making it suitable for all skill levels.

Best Time to Visit

The best time for rock climbing in Hampi is from late October to February. During these months, the weather is dry and cool, with daytime temperatures being pleasant for climbing. December and January are the peak months with perfect conditions. Avoid the summer from March to June, as the rock becomes unbearably hot. The monsoon season, from July to September, brings rain that makes the rocks slippery and access to climbing areas difficult.
Peak Crowd: December to January, coinciding with Christmas, New Year holidays, and ideal weather.
Moderate Crowd: October, November, and February, when the weather is still good but with fewer holiday crowds.
Low Crowd: March to September, due to the extreme summer heat and subsequent monsoon season.

How to Reach

Air

Vidyanagar Airport (VDY) in Toranagallu is the nearest airport, about 40 km away (approx. 1-hour drive). Hubli Airport (HBX) is the next closest major airport, 165 km away (3-4 hour drive).

Train

Hosapete Junction (HPT) is the nearest railway station, located 13 km from Hampi. It has good connectivity with Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Goa. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are readily available outside the station.

Road

Hampi is well-connected by road. It is about 350 km from Bengaluru (6-7 hours drive). KSRTC and private overnight buses operate daily from major cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Goa to Hosapete.

Local Transport

Renting a scooter or moped (₹250-400 per day) is the most common way to get around the climbing areas. Auto-rickshaws are available for shorter trips. A motorboat is required to cross the Tungabhadra river to reach Virupapur Gaddi.
