A small, preserved island in South Goa with a historic church, an old lighthouse, and panoramic views of the Zuari River estuary.
Discover what makes this destination truly special

São Jacinto Island is a small, quiet island situated in the Zuari River estuary, near the city of Vasco da Gama. It is connected to the mainland by a long causeway called the Silver Gate Bridge. The island is primarily a residential fishing village, offering a very different experience from the usual tourist spots in Goa. A narrow road circles parts of the island, leading you through dense vegetation and traditional Goan houses. The main points of interest are the St. Hyacinth's Church (Igreja de São Jacinto), a small white chapel with a simple interior, and an old Portuguese-era lighthouse at the southern tip. A short, unpaved trail leads up to the lighthouse base, which provides expansive views of the Mormugao Port, the Zuari River, and the Arabian Sea. The atmosphere here is calm and uncommercialized, as the local community has actively worked to preserve its natural character. Visitors come here for a quiet walk, to enjoy the water views, and to experience a slice of authentic Goan village life.
