    About the Destination

    Overview

Saheliyon Ki Bari, also known as the 'Garden of the Maidens', is a historic garden in Udaipur. It was constructed in the 18th century for the queen and her royal companions. The garden is laid out with well-maintained walking paths, lush green lawns, and a variety of flowering plants. Its main attractions are the numerous fountains, which are a highlight for many visitors. These fountains operate on a unique gravity-fed system, drawing water from the nearby Fateh Sagar Lake, an engineering detail from that era. The space is divided into several smaller sections, each with a distinct character. The central feature is a large lotus pool with four marble elephants at its corners, each spouting water from its trunk. Surrounding the pool are several marble kiosks or 'chhatris' that provide shaded seating. The sound of running water from the fountains and the sight of the verdant surroundings create a relaxing atmosphere, offering a change of pace from the city's more crowded palaces and forts. There is also a small museum on the premises that displays some artifacts from the royal household.
