    About the Destination

    Overview

Se Cathedral, dedicated to Catherine of Alexandria, stands as one of the most imposing churches in Old Goa. As you approach, its massive white facade, built in a Portuguese-Gothic style with a Tuscan exterior, immediately commands attention. Upon entering, the sheer scale of the interior is impressive. The main nave is exceptionally long and leads to a grand, gilded main altar that showcases paintings and carvings depicting the life of St. Catherine. The interior feels spacious and calm, with light filtering through the high windows. Visitors can walk through the nave and explore the fourteen side chapels, each with its own unique altar and artistry. One of the cathedral's most notable features is the 'Golden Bell' housed in its tower, known for its rich and deep tone. It's one of the largest of its kind in Goa. The cathedral is an active place of worship, so you might see services in progress, adding to the authentic atmosphere. It’s located in the same complex as other historic churches, making it a central point for exploring Old Goa's past.
