Best Season:The ideal time to visit is from October to February. During these months, the weather is cool and pleasant, making trekking and boating enjoyable. The post-monsoon period leaves the forest lush and green. Wildlife sightings are also more frequent near water bodies. The summer months from March to May can be very hot and humid. The monsoon season, from June to September, sees heavy rainfall, which can make trails slippery and lead to the presence of leeches, though the landscape is at its most vibrant.

Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected forest area located in the Kollam district of Kerala, forming a part of the larger Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve. Established in 1984, the sanctuary surrounds the reservoir of the Thenmala Dam, also known as the Parappar Dam. The landscape is a mix of tropical evergreen and semi-evergreen forests, with varied terrain that includes hills and valleys. The sanctuary is named after an endemic and endangered tree species, Gluta travancorica, locally called 'Chenkurinji'.
