Sivagiri Mutt is a well-known ashram and pilgrimage center in Varkala, established by the social reformer and sage, Sree Narayana Guru. Spread across a peaceful hilltop, the complex is the final resting place, or 'Samadhi', of the Guru, making it a place of great reverence for his followers. Visitors experience a calm and spiritual atmosphere upon entering. The main structures include the Guru's Mahasamadhi Mandiram and the octagonal Sharada Temple, dedicated to Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, which was consecrated by the Guru himself in 1912.
