Sri Gurudwara Bangla Sahib - A Spiritual Center in Delhi

Originally, this site was a bungalow known as Jaisinghpura Palace, belonging to Raja Jai Singh of Amber (Jaipur). In 1664, the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan Sahib, stayed here during his visit to Delhi. At that time, a severe cholera and smallpox epidemic was raging in the city. Guru Har Krishan helped the suffering by providing aid and fresh water from the well at the house. He eventually contracted the illness and passed away. Raja Jai Singh later constructed a small tank over the well, and its water is still believed to have healing properties. The Gurudwara was built on this sacred site to commemorate the Guru's compassionate service.

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is one of the most important historical and religious sites for Sikhs. Its primary significance lies in its direct association with the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan Sahib, who selflessly served the sick here. It stands as a powerful symbol of the Sikh principles of 'Sarbat da Bhala' (welfare of all) and 'Seva' (selfless service). The continuous operation of the Langar, which feeds tens of thousands of people every day without any discrimination, makes it a globally recognized center of humanitarian service and equality.
