Sweet Falls, known locally as Kshaid Weitden, is a striking plunge waterfall located a short distance from Shillong. It drops from a height of about 96 meters (315 feet) in a single, powerful column of water, making it one of the steepest in the region. The force of the water creates a constant mist and a loud roar, especially noticeable at the base. The waterfall is set within a forested area, adding to its raw, natural feel.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Sweet Falls is during the post-monsoon months, from October to February. During this period, the water volume is impressive, the skies are generally clear, and the weather is cool and pleasant. The monsoon season (June to September) brings the falls to its most powerful state but makes the access path extremely dangerous and slippery. The summer months (March to May) see a significant reduction in water flow, diminishing the waterfall's impact.
Peak Crowd: October-January, especially on weekends and public holidays when tourist traffic in Shillong is high.
Moderate Crowd: February-April, on weekdays.
Low Crowd: May-September, due to reduced water flow in summer and dangerous conditions during monsoon.

How to Reach

Air

The nearest airport is Shillong Airport (SHL) at Umroi, about 40 km away (1.5-2 hours drive). The larger, more connected airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Guwahati, 110 km away (3-4 hours by car).

Train

Guwahati Railway Station (GHY), approximately 100 km from Shillong, is the nearest major railhead. From the station, you can hire private or shared taxis to reach Shillong.

Road

Shillong is well-connected to Guwahati by NH6. The falls are located about 12 km from Shillong's city center. The approach road to the falls is narrow but accessible by car or taxi.

Local Transport

Hiring a local taxi for a half-day tour from Shillong is the most common way to visit Sweet Falls and other nearby spots. Rented scooters are also a viable option for independent travelers.
