While the fort itself is a protected monument, the hotel was established in 1974, becoming one of the first luxury resorts in Goa. Its opening played a significant role in putting Goa on the international tourism map. The architecture, designed by renowned architect Charles Correa, was intended to blend seamlessly with the historic landscape. The hotel has since maintained its status as an iconic Goan landmark, known for hosting dignitaries and celebrities over the decades.

Significance

It pioneered luxury tourism in Goa and set a benchmark for hospitality in the region. Architecturally, it is noted for its sensitive design that respects the natural terrain and the adjacent fort. For visitors, it offers an exclusive experience of staying within a piece of Goan history while enjoying modern amenities. Its location on the Sinquerim headland provides some of the most commanding and well-known views of the Goan coastline, making it a landmark property.
