Thajiwas Glacier is a prominent and accessible glacier located just a few kilometers from Sonmarg town. The journey to the glacier is an experience in itself, taking you through lush green meadows, alongside a clear stream originating from the glacier, and past several small waterfalls. Visitors can reach the main snow point either by a 3-kilometer trek or by hiring a pony, which is a very popular option. The trek is relatively easy but can be muddy or slushy depending on the season, so proper footwear is important.

The nearest airport is Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport in Srinagar (SXR), approximately 97 km away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi to Sonmarg, which takes about 3-4 hours.
Train
The nearest major railway station is Jammu Tawi (JAT), about 360 km away. From Jammu, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Srinagar, and then proceed to Sonmarg.
Road
Sonmarg is located on the Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH 1). It is well-connected by road to Srinagar. Regular taxis, both private and shared, are available from Srinagar. The road is scenic but can be closed during winter months (November to March).
Local Transport
Within Sonmarg, local taxis are available for short distances. To reach the glacier, the primary modes are hiring a pony or trekking. Ponies can be hired from the main market area or the designated pony stand.
