The Hunters Bar - A Historic Colonial Bar in Gulmarg

The history of The Hunters Bar is intertwined with that of Nedou's Hotel, established in the late 19th century by Michael Adam Nedou. As one of the oldest hotels in the region, it catered to British officers, administrators, and tourists during the Raj era. The bar was an integral part of this social fabric, serving as a gathering place for conversations and recreation. Its decor and name reflect the popular pastimes of that period. Over the decades, it has retained its original character, resisting modern renovations to preserve the authentic feel of a bygone era. It continues to stand as a living museum of Gulmarg's colonial heritage.

The Hunters Bar is significant not just as a watering hole, but as a preserved piece of Gulmarg's history. It is one of the oldest functioning bars in Kashmir, offering a tangible connection to the town's past as a premier British hill station. Its architectural and decorative elements, from the wood paneling to the period decor, are an authentic representation of colonial-era design. For visitors, it provides a unique atmospheric experience that contrasts with modern establishments, making it an important cultural landmark within the town's tourism landscape.
