Overview

The Lalit Grand Palace is a heritage hotel situated on the banks of Srinagar's famous Dal Lake, with the Zabarwan mountain range forming a backdrop. Originally built in 1910 as the residence for the ruling Dogra dynasty, the property maintains its historic character through its Edwardian architecture and antique furnishings. The main palace building, along with surrounding cottages, is spread across 28 acres of landscaped gardens, which were designed by the same person who created the Nishat Bagh.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to stay is from March to June when the weather is pleasant and the gardens are in bloom. Autumn, from September to November, is also excellent with clear skies and moderate temperatures. The winter months of December to February are for visitors who enjoy snowfall and cold weather, but many outdoor activities may be limited. The monsoon period in July and August can experience heavy rainfall.
Peak Crowd: May-July and during the Christmas/New Year period. This is the main tourist season and holiday time.
Moderate Crowd: March-April and September-November. The weather is good, attracting a steady flow of guests.
Low Crowd: December-February (excluding holidays) and the monsoon period of August due to extreme cold or rain.

How to Reach

Air

Sheikh Ul-Alam International Airport (SXR) in Srinagar is the nearest airport, located 15 km away. The drive to the hotel takes approximately 30-45 minutes by taxi.

Train

The closest major railway station is Jammu Tawi (JAT), around 270 km away. From Jammu, it's a 7-8 hour drive to Srinagar by taxi or bus. Udhampur station is closer but has limited train connectivity.

Road

Srinagar is connected by National Highway 44. The road journey from Jammu takes 7-8 hours, depending on traffic and weather conditions. Regular bus services and shared taxis connect Srinagar with Jammu and other cities in North India.

Local Transport

Pre-paid taxis from the airport are the most convenient option. The hotel can also arrange for private car services for airport transfers and local sightseeing. Auto-rickshaws are available in the city for shorter trips.
