Tirthan Valley is a mountain destination in Himachal Pradesh known for trout fishing, hiking trails, and serving as the gateway to the Great Himalayan National Park.
Tirthan Valley is located in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, deriving its name from the Tirthan River that flows through it. The area sits at an altitude of approximately 1,600 meters and serves as the primary gateway to the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors will find a landscape dominated by alpine forests, river streams, and traditional Himachali villages built with local wood and stone architecture. The valley centers around eco-tourism, focusing strictly on outdoor activities rather than commercial shopping streets or crowded tourist centers. Popular areas within the valley include Gushaini, Banjar, and Shoja, which serve as base camps for various treks. The main attraction is the river itself, known for brown and rainbow trout fishing. Travelers can hike to nearby waterfalls like Chhoie Waterfall, explore high-altitude lakes such as Serolsar Lake near Jalori Pass, or engage in multi-day treks inside the national park boundaries. The environment remains largely untouched by heavy commercialization, providing a straightforward nature and wilderness experience for visitors.
