Valara Waterfalls is a series of cascading falls located directly beside the Kochi-Madurai Highway, making it a popular and easily accessible stop for those traveling to Munnar. The water tumbles down a steep, rocky cliff from a height of about 1000 meters, creating multiple tiers that are visible through the surrounding greenery. The falls are part of the Deviyar River and are enveloped by dense forest, which adds to the natural setting.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to see Valara Waterfalls is from June to November. During the monsoon season (June to September), the waterfall is at its most spectacular, with a massive volume of water cascading down the rocks. The post-monsoon months of October and November also offer a great view with substantial water flow and clearer weather. The summer season, from March to May, is the least ideal time as the water flow diminishes significantly, sometimes reducing to a mere trickle.
Peak Crowd: June to October, especially on weekends and holidays, coinciding with the monsoon and peak tourist travel to Munnar.
Moderate Crowd: November to February, as post-monsoon tourist traffic remains steady.
Low Crowd: March to May, during the dry summer when the waterfall's flow is minimal and attracts fewer visitors.

Air

Cochin International Airport (COK) is the nearest airport, located about 80 km away. From the airport, it takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to reach by taxi.

Train

The nearest major railway station is Aluva (AWY), about 82 km away. From Aluva, you can hire a taxi or board a bus heading towards Munnar to reach the waterfall.

Road

The waterfall is located directly on National Highway 85, the main road connecting Kochi to Munnar. It is a very common stop for anyone driving this route. It is situated between Neriamangalam and Adimali.

Local Transport

The most common way to visit is via a private car or taxi as part of a trip to Munnar. All public and private buses on the Munnar route pass this spot and will stop on request.
