Best Time to Visit

The best period to visit is from October to March. During these months, the weather is dry and pleasant with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 30°C. This is the peak tourist season when all the cliff-top shacks are open and water sports are fully operational. The monsoon season, from June to September, brings heavy rainfall and rough seas, making swimming unsafe. Summer, from April to May, is very hot and humid, which can be uncomfortable for outdoor activities.
Peak Crowd: December to January, and on long weekends. This is the peak holiday season for both international and domestic tourists.
Moderate Crowd: October-November and February-March. The weather is still excellent, but with slightly fewer crowds than the absolute peak.
Low Crowd: April to September. The summer heat and subsequent monsoon rains significantly reduce tourist numbers.

How to Reach

Air

Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) is the nearest airport, located about 45 km away. A taxi from the airport to Varkala takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.

Train

Varkala Sivagiri Railway Station (VAK) is well-connected to major cities like Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Delhi, and Mumbai. The beach cliff is a short 3-4 km auto-rickshaw ride from the station.

Road

Varkala is easily accessible by road via National Highway 66 (NH 66). Regular state-run (KSRTC) and private buses operate from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and other Keralan cities.

Local Transport

Auto-rickshaws are readily available for short distances. Scooters and motorcycles are popular for rent, with daily rates ranging from ₹300-500. Local taxis can also be hired for sightseeing.
