The Vintage & Classic Car Collection Museum in Udaipur is an impressive display of automobiles that once belonged to the Maharanas of Mewar. Housed in the former royal garage of the Garden Hotel, the collection provides a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the rulers. The museum showcases over 20 vehicles, each maintained in pristine, working condition. Visitors can walk through the semi-circular garage and see famous models from Rolls-Royce, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, and Ford. Each car has an information plaque detailing its model, make, and its history with the royal family. Beyond just the cars, the museum includes an original Shell petrol pump that is still functional, adding to the period atmosphere. The vehicles on display are not just standard models; many were custom-built for the Maharanas for specific purposes like royal processions, hunting expeditions, or personal travel. Standouts include the 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II used in the James Bond film 'Octopussy' and a majestic 1938 Cadillac convertible. The museum is compact and well-organized, making it an easy and interesting visit for car enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
