Inter-island travel is common and can be done via domestic flights, high-speed catamarans, local ferries, or chartered water taxis. For shorter distances between islands in a specific group like the Mamanucas or Yasawas, ferry services are the most popular and scenic option.
The kava (or 'Yaqona') ceremony is a significant cultural tradition where a drink made from the root of a pepper plant is prepared and shared. It's a symbol of respect and friendship. If invited to a village, participating in a kava ceremony is a customary and memorable experience.
Don't leave without trying a 'lovo', a traditional feast cooked in an underground oven. Other popular dishes include 'kokoda' (raw fish marinated in citrus juice and coconut cream), 'rourou' (taro leaves in coconut milk), and fresh tropical fruits like papaya and pineapple.
