Let's get into the actual places to visit in Pollachi. You are probably wondering what you can do here for a whole weekend or more. Plenty, as it turns out.
Anamalai Tiger Reserve
First up, the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. You might not spot a tiger right away. They are pretty shy. But you will definitely see elephants, wild boars, and probably a hundred different birds.
The forest department runs safari rides. They cost a few hundred rupees. Take the morning slot. The light coming through the trees is incredible, and the animals are way more active before the sun gets too hot.
Topiram is the spot where you buy tickets. Get there by 6:30 AM. Trust me on this.
Top Slip
Then there's Top Slip. Weird name, I know. They used to slide timber logs down the hills here back in the day. Now, it's one of the top Pollachi attractions for anyone who likes a good walk in the woods.
You have to get special permission from the forest office in town to go up. But it is totally worth the hassle. The drive up the mountain takes about an hour. The road is pretty bumpy. Once you're up there, the silence is heavy. It's just you and the sound of crickets.
They have basic government cottages you can rent for about 2000 rupees a night. Don't expect luxury. Expect basic beds, hot food, and absolute peace.
