Explore the ancient village of Anegundi, the first capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, known for its mythological roots, rural charm, and key Ramayana sites.
Located on the northern bank of the Tungabhadra River, Anegundi is a historic village that predates the Hampi ruins. Considered the cradle of the Vijayanagara Empire, it served as its first capital. The atmosphere here is distinctly different from the main Hampi site; it's a living village with homes, farms, and a slower pace of life set amidst ancient ruins. Visitors experience a blend of mythology, history, and rural Karnataka life. The landscape is dotted with paddy fields, banana plantations, and large, smooth boulders characteristic of the region.
