A 12th-century twin-shrine Hoysala temple near Hassan, known for its detailed exterior carvings and peaceful, rural setting.
The Koravangala Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a 12th-century structure located in a quiet village near Hassan. Built during the Hoysala dynasty, it showcases their distinctive architectural style using soapstone. The temple is a 'dvikuta', meaning it has two shrines, each with its own tower (shikhara) and a Nandi pavilion facing it. The main shrine is for Bucesvara (a form of Shiva), and the secondary one is for Surya, the sun god, though the idol is now missing.
