An 12th-century Hoysala temple with a unique four-shrine design, intricate soapstone carvings, and a peaceful atmosphere.
The Lakshmi Devi Temple, located in the quiet village of Doddagaddavalli, is an excellent example of early Hoysala architecture. Constructed in 1114 CE, it predates the more famous temples at Belur and Halebidu. The temple is built from soapstone and features a unique four-shrine layout known as 'chatushkuta', which is uncommon. The four shrines are connected by a common hall and are dedicated to different deities: Lakshmi, Shiva, Vishnu, and Kali. This arrangement reflects a harmonious blend of the main Hindu traditions.
