Mattupetty Dam is a concrete gravity dam built on the Mattupetty Lake, a short drive from Munnar town. The primary purpose of the dam is water conservation and hydroelectricity generation, but it has become a major tourist destination due to its beautiful setting. The dam creates a large reservoir where the surrounding hills and tea plantations cast clear reflections in the calm water, especially on still mornings. The area around the dam is part of the Western Ghats and is surrounded by lush green forests and sprawling tea gardens, offering excellent photo opportunities.
